An exciting industry with a

vital purpose

Working in agriculture

UK agriculture is a cutting-edge sector in which people with diverse skills and experience dedicate their expertise to the vital goal of feeding the nation. As a varied industry, there are a wealth of opportunities and career paths and it is a sector open to anyone regardless of background. In addition to farm advisory roles there are career opportunities ranging from logistics and technology to finance, HR, marketing and communications, and much more.

Working at Frontier

Frontier is a successful, forward-thinking business that holds a unique position in the agriculture sector. We work across the entire UK grain supply chain and collaborate with everyone from individual farmers to multi-national food and drink manufacturers. Our scale and operational diversity mean that we offer a wide range of roles at sites across the UK. Above this, our people are our greatest asset and their health and safety is our number one priority. We take pride in delivering industry-leading expertise and services to our customers and partners.

Our values

How we do business is important to us and our company values of integrity, customer first, and expertise have guided us since we were founded in 2005. They are in our ‘DNA’ and they shape our people’s day-to-day actions and decision-making. We celebrate and reward employees who exemplify our values. We present quarterly awards to colleagues who have gone above and beyond in terms of demonstrating our values.

During the recruitment process, as well as assessing competency against skills or knowledge criteria, we always explore values; before applying for a role with Frontier it is essential to consider if our values align with your own.

Responsible Choice

We operate responsibly. Our Responsible Choice sustainability framework shapes our long-term thinking in the areas of people, planet, production, partnership and prosperity. More information can be found in Sustainability.

Our people area covers how we look after and respect people across all our interactions. Health and safety is our number one priority and we empower our people to take a ‘stop, think, be safe’ approach in all they do. We also look after our employees with a wide range of health and wellbeing benefits, and we make a positive social impact though our support for charities, our match funding scheme and our sponsorship of national industry campaigns such as Farmers Weekly’s ‘Level the Field’ initiative.

We raise safety standards in one of the highest risk industries in the UK; health and safety is our number one priority.
We are building our industry-leading support for mental and financial health and wellbeing.
Our respect-based culture aims to treat people fairly and equitably.
We invest in continuous learning and development opportunities for our employees.
We support communities and charities and contribute to employee fundraising efforts.

Employee network groups

Our employee network groups embody our respect-based culture, which ensures we treat all people fairly and equitably. We want every Frontier employee to feel comfortable and welcome in the workplace regardless of their gender, sexuality or other characteristics.

Our employee network groups run regular events, support company-wide initiatives such as Mental Health Awareness Week and Pride month, organise on-site activities, offer peer support, and give expert information and resources. They play a key role in looking after the health and wellbeing of our employees and fostering a culture of respect in Frontier.

Our Health and wellbeing group promotes a workplace with health and wellbeing advocacy for all.
Over 40% of women at Frontier are involved in our Women’s network group, which organises member-inspired events and collaboration.
Our Menopause support group fosters a supportive culture for women experiencing the menopause by improving awareness and sharing knowledge.
Our LGBTQ+ community network is open to all. It raises awareness of the LGBTQ+ community, while providing a confidential safe space for those who identify as LGBTQ+.
Our Neurodiversity awareness group promotes improved understanding of neurodiversity and provides a safe space to discuss and share experiences.

Learning and development

Learning and development (L&D) opportunities are open and accessible to all Frontier employees. This helps us to nurture talent, improve employee satisfaction, and demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity.

No matter an employee’s aspirations, skills or experience, we will endeavour to find an L&D option to suit them. From vocational certification to leadership skills and personal development, we create insightful courses and promote online self-learning modules to help our people and our business grow.

We partner with BASIS to provide third-party certification and vocational training in areas such as crop protection inputs handling.
Our Pathway to leadership programme is a flexible six-stage programme that we evolve and refine through data-driven feedback.
We provide access to online self-development modules with over 3,000 entries on people skills.
We run flagship L&D courses such as our Women’s Development Programme. This supports career development, self-confidence and network-building, and is open to all women employed permanently.

Work placements and experience

Our work experience and placement programmes give people the opportunity to join us on a temporary basis, providing skills and experience to help them further their careers. We recognise that we can learn as much from their ideas, approaches and capabilities as they do from us.

That is why we are open to giving young people first-hand insights into our workplace and the exciting role we play in UK agriculture. From work experience opportunities and temporary summer jobs to full-time placements and apprenticeships, we are keen to share our expertise and values.

We supervise shorter work experience opportunities that help inform career decisions and develop transferable skills.
Our harvest temp programme benefits people looking for a temporary job or wanting to gain work experience over the summer. Current opportunities are posted from February each year.
Our paid internal and external apprenticeship programmes are offered at multiple levels and include off-the-job training and skills development.
Please contact us with any queries relating to our placements, apprenticeships or work experience on recruitment@frontierag.co.uk
