Professional Storage Standards
Harvesting, conditioning and storing combinable crops correctly will allow the opportunity to add value and maximise marketing opportunities.
- Use of professional stores with audited performance, maximises access to markets forever increasing consumer requirements
- Having a facility to allow you to dry grain during challenging harvests is important to maintain value of the crops
- Having the right quality storage particularly for value added products such as malting barley and oilseed rape is extremely important.
Correct storage of grain is essential to maintain its quality after harvest and growers should ensure they use a storage facility that is not only registered under the AIC Trade Assurance Scheme (TASCC) but is subject to audit by independent verifiers. Grain is regarded as a primary foodstuff under the Food Safety Act 1990 and stores must be registered with local authorities under the food and feed hygiene regulations.
Frontier’s quality assurance department works closely with our own stores as well as third party stores to monitor storage conditions and focus on:
- Constant quality assessment
- Monitoring security of the site
- Temperature checking
- Tests carried out by our lab team
- Meeting all regulations.
Our expert management of grain quality during storage ensures grain supplied to consumers meets contract specifications and complies with all food safety laws. We have dedicated and industry-leading lab and store staff meaning that we are always at the front of any developments. Our continued investment in this integral part of the supply chain means growers can be confident that their hard work is rewarded and their yield protected.
Frontier has a national storage network, storing up to 800,000 tonnes of grain, oilseed rape and pulses and can provide advice on all aspects of storage and risk management.
We pride ourselves in being experts in storage, it takes dedication and commitment to ensure grain arriving and departing 12 months later departs at the same quality. We always encourage farmers to not take the risk doing it themselves and to have confidence in us and our technical expertise.
All Frontier farmer customers have free access to their grain movement and sample result history, which can also be accessed at any time via the MyAccount section within Frontier’s MyFarm farm management platform.
