Frontier and SOYL to host three webinars focussed on soil health and crop nutrition 9th – 11th February

Frontier Agriculture and its precision farming division, SOYL, will host three webinars related to sustainable crop production; specifically around the importance of soil health, crop nutrition and the value that precision technology can add to arable farming systems.

The webinars are free to attend and will take place between 9th-11th February, with each one covering topics that reflect the different priorities and interests of growers relative to where they are on their soil health journey.

Expert speakers will cover everything from nutrition management with variable rate technology and how to achieve optimum canopies, right through to nitrogen use efficiency and the role of organic matter in carbon management.

Targeted to the different interests and priorities of growers

"These online events will ensure growers can access advice and services that are relevant to their individual circumstances," explains head of digital development, Tom Parker. "Some growers will only just be starting to think about precision farming, in which case our webinar which looks at different precision technologies and how they contribute to farm efficiency and sustainability could be helpful.

"On the other hand, growers who are already familiar with precision or who wish to learn more about the intricacies of their soils could join our webinar where we break down the science behind healthy soil systems. There is something for everyone."

Access to advice is vital as industry looks to sustainable practices

At this time of year, Frontier and its divisions would ordinarily be delivering a national programme of seminars related to the work of its 3D Thinking trials and research programme. These events comprise valuable and topical crop production insights to help inform growers’ decisions for the season ahead, with presentations delivered by technical experts from across the businesses.

"Our traditional seminars were a great way for us to address the challenges faced by growers and to share a range of advice," says Tom. "While current restrictions mean they aren’t possible, discussing topics that are of value to growers will always be a priority for us. It’s something which bears even greater significance given the recent changes to agricultural policy."

The webinars from Frontier and SOYL come at a time in which farmers across the UK are facing a significant period of change. Following the recent implementation of the Government’s 2020 Agriculture Act, sustainable crop production is high on the agenda for global food supply chains, farmers and consumers, and with this comes an increased focus on soil health.

Tom continues, "Improving the resilience of our soils is at the very centre of the industry’s direction of travel – it is core to every aspect of crop production. Of course, the approaches required are different on every farm.

"These webinars will ensure growers can access advice that is relevant to their individual circumstances and business needs. UK agriculture is now in a period of transition which is full of opportunity, but this transition can feel very different from one grower to another."
