Farmers in the South East can now receive instant notification of the quality of their deliveries into Thames Grain at the Port of Tilbury.
The system, developed by Frontier Agriculture, which is the exclusive grain marketing partner for the port, is understood to be the first of its kind in the South East. Ben Steed, a Frontier farm trader working with growers in the region explains how it works, "As soon as the load has been tipped, the grower will receive a text message with key data about the quality of the crop including moisture, specific weight and admixture levels."
The service is available for all commodities and having immediate access to this information allows the farmer to make more informed decisions for marketing and managing their grain and pulses. "It helps the grower to understand the quality of the grain that they are loading out," continues Ben, "so they can monitor their performance as they work through the shed and perhaps make different decisions about movements."
As well as these practical benefits, farmers have commented that they value the peace of mind from knowing that the load has arrived and been tipped as planned.
Frontier has successfully run similar systems in other parts of the country, with much positive feedback from farmers. Ben says, "Growers are used to only getting notifications about their load when there is a problem or a claim needs to be made. However, farmers are quite rightly proud of what they do and value positive feedback too; these texts give us the opportunity to share that with them."
Anyone who is already registered to receive texts from Frontier will automatically receive the tip text when a load is delivered to Thames Grain at the Port of Tilbury.
